2 3/4 c Flour 2/3 c Water
1 1/2 t Baking soda 1/3 c Shortening, melted
1/2 t Salt 1 c Molasses
1 t Ground cinnamon 1 Egg, beaten
1 1/2 t Ground ginger -Glaze (below)
1/4 t Ground cloves
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine first 6 ingredients in a large
bowl; mix well. Combine water, shortening, molasses and egg. Mix
well, and stir into flour mixture. Pour batter into a greased 9″
square pan. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a wooden pick
inserted in center comes out clean. Spread glaze on warm gingerbread,
if desired, and serve.
1 cup sifted powdered
2 Tbsp. boiling water
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Combine all ingredients; spread on warm cake.
